I always think of that as my internal message whenever I see something which is unexpected... I got it from this old African-American gentleman who used to holler that as the "rabbit" came around the track for the Greyhounds to chase at a track I used to frequent in Montgomery, Alabama... Just as the announcer would say "Here comes Richie (the rabbit)" the old dude would start hollering it at the top of his lungs and it still makes me chuckle inside even now... I wonder what happened to that man, hmmm...
Anyways, uh yeah... Just curious ~ or is it top secret, highly classified information only those who need to know are allowed access to???
It is my understanding that in this event the score reverts to the previous completed inning since the game was called prior to the Pirates getting a full opportunity to complete their half of the inning. Therefore it reverts to the end of the sixth inning when the score was 5-1 Pirates (according to the Reds scoresheet they sent me for stats keeping).
So this was another shortenend game at Bob Moore because of time issues?
I understand Dodgers/Yankees had a tight game going recently that was also cut short.
Cubs were tied with A's in a great game Monday after 6 innings - I went to the mound @ 7:46 to start top of 7th - but ,alas, base ump, who had arrived in the 2nd inning, said - "game over". Wonderful, he gets paid for a full game, we get ANOTHER shortened game, and the field sat empty until 8:15, as the next teams warmed up along the baselines....
That's the best we can do...? For two to three grand a team to play in this league, we deserve better.
Yeah, I heard the Dodgers and Yankees tied the same night you guys did too??? Wow, 2 games and 2 ties on the same field, on the same day??? I ditto your sentiments Jonny...
It is time to book only one game per night at the Bob. The days (and nights) of DH's at the Bob need to be a thing of the past. Wasn't it Albert Einstein that said, "The definition of insanity is to continue to do the same thing over and over, and expect different results." The "hustle on and off the field between innings" bull crap just doesn't fly!
We can certainly book one game at Bob Moore per night, alleviating the curfew issue. However, we would have to pay for both game slots, doubling the price per game.
The slots are dictated by the organization that runs the field. It is because of these additional slots offered this year that I was able to put out a complete schedule for the year for the first time in recent memory. Do we want to go back to putting out the schedule two weeks at a time?
I will gladly move any games off of that field to a field that has available slots, but alas, no one has stepped forward with that information. Further, Burnt Hills HS has no such curfew and is in much better shape this year as long as it is maintained by the teams playing there.
Griping about it doesn't solve anything. You're either part of the problem, or part of the solution. I've seen no viable solutions offered here. This is nothing new.
There's also Ichabod Crane HS (Kinderhook) now that school's out > Kevin is the contact person there and it is actually a great field which we've used in the last couple years since I've joined the league, but not sure why nothing is there this year...
Ichabod is $100 per day no matter how many games. Teams have expressed concern about ability to get there in time for 6pm weeknight games. Great option for weekends, but we have had very limited success with 35 weekend games. Most teams wind up borrowing players to field a squad and you run into conflicts with the 25 division.
Chatham is a great option, but not certain that guys can get off work and down to the field for a 6 pm slot. I may be mistaken, but I believe there is a residency requirement for that field.
Good ideas, and not trying to be negative, just relaying the feedback that I've gotten from managers. Keep the ideas coming, we may find a solution yet.
I've heard about Shuttleworth or other "northern" fields, but we run into the willingness to travel scenario.
100 a weekend day @ Ichabod is a steal!! I'd even move the 45's on Sundays off the Satellite field in a heartbeat if the "crane " is available.
Great field
I would definately contact the managers who have remaining games scheduled @ the Bob ito see if they would consider Sat at Ichabod.. I'm sure there might be a couple of conflicts with 25 division, but no different than once in awhile there is a conflict between my 35 and 45 div. games - I simply see which team needs me more that day.
I hate to keep parroting Jonny like I'm his little lackey or something, but I again have the exact same feelings on the subject... More so is that I know it's not "in town" per se, but depending on where guys live Ichabod is even CLOSER then a couple of the other venues we use regularly... It's just not that far away and yet some people act like we are talking Kingston (where I'm trekking to tonite)... Speaking of which, isn;t it closer for them to travel to? Heck, the Birds might love the idea... This is not to mention that as Jonny also reiterated, it is a GREAT field (I said that part first tho Jonny!)... MUCH better then several of the fields we use and yeah, yeah, I know it has a sun issue and such depending on time of day, but it is truly a top quality playing field... And at $100 a day, wow! We could EASILY get 4 FULL games in if we started in the am... I'd definitely vote to switch my 35's games there... And even though it'd be up to DD for my 45's, I'd like that too if they are at the Satellite ~ the infield there makes me crazy... Not New Scotland though, that's my personal fave just as it is many others... But uh yeah, I'm well aware I'm only one guy and I'm not sure what everyone else's position on it is... Seems like it's worth discussing though, doesn't it?
I am all for Ichabod - nicest field I have seen since moving here and makes my life alot easier if I can schedule 3 games in one day.
Idea was floated by the managers last year and there was no interest. I'll schedule whatever managers will agree to as long as it fits our financial guidelines. If we can get two games there on a Saturday, it's well within our budget.
I agree with you Jonny on making a choice between divisions, but the other side of the coin is guys pay to play in both divisions and we should make accomodations when possible. Again, I'm with you - pick your poison - on that point.
And, to MNM's point, it's the closest field to my house.
we played games at bob moore and we did have an issue with the cerfew when we played the dodgers 3-0 for 5 innings and ended in a 3-3 tie so long innings wasnt a huge factor. Now, when we played the pirates there 8-5 and got done at 10:02 pm now that game we did move along in between innings and also had players ready to run for the guys who needed them and guys warmed up the pitcher for the catcher if he was the last batter. Just geting guys in and out off the field is ALOT easier than moving 38 games to different fields and having guys drive to kinderhook or icabod crane granted we drive to KINGSTON once a year but i think doing little things to move the game along is a better resolve than relocating game slots
I contacted Legion Field people before the season began and they seemed excited to have us come back. I passed the name and number forward and no games are scheduled there. I also know after July 6 Albany Babe Ruth is wide open as well. I can talk to ABR guy and get some more games there if needed.
Central Babe Ruth, after July 6th, sounds like our best option going forward, and heck, if you explain that the crazy time rules might be making us go elsewhere, maybe the people at Bob Moore will cut us a rate for one game per night.
Guys, I met with the mayor of Ravena today. There is a baseball field at Mosher park not being used. It needs work, the mayor wants the field to be used 7 days a week for FREE. They will supply any equipment needed to make the field the way we want it. The league would have to supply the labor. Just another option.
Joe, that's a great option! I've played weekday games at Ravena HS and both teams were able to field a team by start time. Since CDMSBL has always been willing to work on fields, this is a no-brainer.
I would proposed that the President and Board jump on this quickly, schedule a work day and go from there.
Perhaps in the future, if we develop a strong working relationship with the town as we have in Voorheesville, we could look into paying something toward lighting.
I think we should start a sticky thread and keep it at the top of the forum for field discussions. Burying the discussion in a controverisal tie game thread won't allow the conversation to keep rolling.
