Tuesday night, at the B-diamond, the Platinum Marlins got their first win of the year by beating the Americans 10-4. The Marlins pounded out 14 hits and worked 5 walks, in the victory. Ralph Caputo and Mike Girard led the way with 3 hits each. Scott Ross, Steve Scheafer, and Kevin Jackson had two hits each. Girard and Wayne Newcomb each scored 3 runs. Girard pitched the first 4 innings (leaving with a 8-1 lead) and gave up just 1 first inning run, allowing 4 hits and no walks, while striking out 5. Newcomb, Caputo, and Ross threw one inning each, as all needed some work in the early season.
The American's offense was led by Nick Kanellis, who was 2 for 3, with a RBI. Great to see Nick back on the field (unless you are the opposing pitcher) after an extended absence. Glen Rugen and Rich Garbarino also had two hits.
The Marlins improve to 1-2, with the victory. The Americans drop to 2-3 with the loss.
I hope everybody enjoys their holiday weekend!
