Perfect day for baseball. We do have room for one more if anyone wants it. Though, we can play with what we've got. Nine inning game on a picture-perfect field.
Welp, it was a fairly successful game in terms of turnout but the Massachusetts boys brought the big guns and smoked the New York team this year in game one by the score of 13-1.
As of now, we have 14 committed to play this coming Saturday (October 14) so we seem to have all spots filled (unless we get a couple of players who back out). We have a couple of free agents coming this weekend too so managers in the 33's may want to come check them out.
We do still have lots of room for October 21 so if you want some, come get some!
Much better performance this past weekend as the CDMSBL team tied up their Fall Ball Series against the BABL with a 7-5 victory. Dan Jones (18+ Ducks) struck out 10 in 7 IP and picked up the victory on the mound and Darren Foote (33+ Black Bears) provided the spark at the top of the order going 3-for-4 with a 2B, 2 R, SB and an RBI.
The boys in blue struck first in the top of the first when Darren Foote singled, stole second and scored on a one-out RBI single by Jim Hicks (33+ Yankees/45+ Giants). Dan Jones struck out the side in order in the bottom of the first to set the tone for New York. The score remained 1-0 into the 5th when Jim Bonaparte (18+ Ducks/33+ Indians/45+ Yankees) drew a one-out walk and subsequently scored on a two-out single by Jeff Walsh (33+ Dirtbags). The Massachusetts boys scored in the bottom of the sixth when the leadoff hitter was hit by a pitch and the next batter boomed a double to right-center field. Jones settled in and closed out the sixth without further damage and the score stood 2-1 into the seventh inning.
The offense for both teams took over from there.
Darren Foote reached base on a single with one out in the top of the 7th and Jim Hicks drew a two out walk. Both scored on a booming double to left field by Joe DeMarco (45+ Giants) to push the lead to 4-1. Dan Jones yielded an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh but the inning did include a rare 6-3-2-1 put out at home to prevent further scoring. CDMSBL Blue scored twice in the 8th on a one-out walk by Jeff Walsh followed by a single by Tim Burns (33+ Black Bears/45+ Shaskys) and a misplayed ball by the left-fielder off the bat of Austin Blum (33+ Free Agent). Danny Hernandez (33+ Dirtbags/45+ Marlins) followed with a sacrifice fly and the score was 6-2 heading into the bottom of the 8th.
Jim Bonaparte closed out the game for New York and New York added an insurance run on a leadoff walk by Bob Santos (33+ Free Agent) and an RBI double by Darren Foote.
Offensively some big numbers for the New York team:
Darren Foote: 3-for-4, 2B, 2 R, RBI, SB
Jim Hicks: 1-for-3, R, BB, SB, RBI
Joe DeMarco: 1-for-3, 2B, BB, 2 RBI
Jeff Walsh: 1-for-2, R, BB
And the story of the day was Dan Jones on the mound:
(W) 7 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 10 K

We will be having at least one more game this coming Saturday (10/21) at 1:00 p.m. at Chatham. Rumor has it a fourth game is in the works for the 28th so stay tuned!
