The Bombers proved last year was no fluke as they beat the Giants 3-1 and 17-4 to sweep the finals Saturday at New Scotland Town Park.
Joe Burns pitched a helluva game in the opener only to be outdone by Bombers starter Dave Smitherman, who survived a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the 7th, allowing just one run. The Bombers defense was the difference. Outstanding plays in CF and 2B cut off possible rallies and right-fielder Ryan Johnson threw a perfect strike to the plate from some 250 feet away to cut down another Giants opportunity.
In Game 2, the Bombers scored 4 in the first and it was an uphill battle from there. Lex Herlett, who made two outstanding plays in CF in Game 1, pitched a complete game in Game 2 to give Mark Marshall's team its second straight title. Bob Altobelli went yard in Game 2 as well.
Prior to last year, the Giants had won 5 titles in 7 years.
Every Bombers player had a hand in the two games. They are deep, talented and a bunch of fun guys to talk to.
Congrats to the Bombers. It's gonna take a special team to unseat that group in 2018.
