Support Jimmy K!

I never thought I'd say, hey, let's support a Republican for office, but I'm saying it now.

I heard on the radio the other day that Giants' manager Jim Konstantakis has been drafted to run for mayor of Rensselaer on the
remarkable combination of the Republican and Working Family Party lines.

From the interview on WAMC, it was clear Jim has already put on his sprinting shoes and he's taking on the incumbent, who, I believe (not
sure about this) has been in office for six years.

Jim has his work cut out for him. But I suspect he may have more than one sympathetic ear when he talks about an issue that made
sense to me: official dump trucks driving the main road through the city to a landfill from 6:30 a.m. till late in the afternoon. Jim said it was noisy,
a dusty nuisance, and it made having a cup of morning coffee on your porch impossible.

I say run on that issue! A man needs to have his coffee in peace!

Jim's not the first in our league to volunteer or run for civic duty. On the Peppers, for example, we have two players who've done that:
infielder Terry Buchanan is an elected judge in E. Greenbush and outfielder Ray Meandro recently accepted a nomination.
to a town board in the Pittsfield area. I wouldn't be surprised to learn other guys from other teams are similarly involved.

If so, hat's off to all of them.

And go, Jim!

-Mike

Best of luck Jimmy K.

A hard worker and fair man.

I would vote early and often for him if I was a resident.

Thnx Mike and those who replied. The incumbents has served 12 years and is looking for another win, but plans to leave after one year and hand it off the the Democratic Democratic President of the Common Council. Unfortunately, our city has been deteriorating fr many years now. I mean, really, how many cities with 9300 residents have only a Little League and a softball field with fences 370 feet away and nothing else :)

In truth, the landfill is but one serious issue here and we need to change our image, our infrastructure and the way we do business.

So, if you have friends or family in our little city, I urge you to urge them for a much needed change.

Seriously, I hate politics and most politicians are as corrupt as any organization anywhere. But I love our city.

Thnx again.
