In the opener for each team, the Humminbirds defeated the Peppers 8 to 0 at Bethlehem. Latour pitched a complete game for the Humminbirds, scattering 6 hits. Peppers pitchers Mike Hart, Greg Hoin and John Weber eached tossed a few innings; none were hit hard, but a few walks and untimely errors by the Peppers did them in. Dave DeMaria had 2 hits for the Peppers, and Matt Leinung and Tom Japour each had doubles.
