Goldens 9, Hornets 7

Marlins off to yet another run at a championship by coming from behind for a 9-7 win over the Hornets Sunday at New Scotland.
Don't have the book, but Tony Nardacci had 2 hits and reached base 4 times for the Hornets. Billy Smith had a couple of clutch hits, also for the Hornets.

This was a Dennis Scimeca jewel. complete game (cause he knew he had no back-up!) win, Dennis scattered 12 hits amoung 3 K's and had a rough start in the colder weather. He loves that warm stuff and don't we all! In the first Dennis allowed 4 runs off 3hits and 2 walks, . this continued into the 2nd as the first 2 Hornets batters scored. there were no errors by the Golden defense but some missed cuts allowed eventual runs.
No latitude is needed by the way for this new Hornets lineup. joining their roster this year are rookies Dick Stark, Tony Nardacci, (both past 28 and 38 all stars) and veteran CDMSBL pitcher Chris Abrams, the starter in this season opener. this team has always been a good hitting bunch and I know guys like Billy Smith, Ron Smaka, Mike Lannon and Jack Perry will welcome the company as team leaders. Mr. Hudson, the mgr., is serving his counrty at present and I wish him a safe return. Tommy Henderson did a great job in his debut as a CDMSBL manager, .... for record Nardacci had a hit, sac fly, a walk .....and a crucial (for us anyway) 7th inning lead-off fly ball out to right (caught by Randy Wood). Mr. Stark batting second reached every time with 2 hits and 2 walks. Catcher Billy Smith , provided the follow -up pop with 3 singles and at least 2 RBI's. Ron Smaka had an RBI's also.
Goldens seems to slow boil this one out. We tied the game in this 5th after a lead off single by Skip Treece (2-3 , with a double 2 SB's and 3 runs scored) He and SS Chuck Sohl scored on a 2 out single by 2nd basemen Jay Hayner, his 3rd RBI of the night off 2-3 hittng.
the winning run was scored by Tom Maney after he hit a single , stole second ( seems this has happened before!?) and then scored along with Jim Ansel on a long double by Skip Treece off the glove of Lf Gary Savari . Bill Pelton, John Reel, & Wood joined Hayner and in the multi Hit category. We also welcome rookie Ray White ,although hitless in his debut he played a solid 2nd in the late stages of the game.
good to seem a solid game from both teams on opening day. I expect a much closer run at the regular season title this year, given the return of this Hornets team to the top of the pack.
