This past Friday, the Bluejays defeated the Giants by a score of 5-1 in a 6-inning game at the Knick, shortened due to darkness. Mike Maiello (2-0, ERA of 0.00) pitched a complete game for his second win of the season and he pitched a powerful game. Mike struck out 8 and allowed only 3 hits with no earned runs. He also robbed the Giants of 2 base hits - rips up the middle - which Mike made great plays on. He also slammed a double over the left fielders head - driving in a run. The man never leaves anything on the table - all this with a badly sprained left ankle - the foot he lands on when pitching. "Lot of guts" or "110%" aren't the words for the way this guy plays the game!! Other Bluejays who contributed on offense include Brian Maiello, who had a base hit with 2 rbi's, and Mike Eplite who had 2 hits and 2 rbi's. Paul Celantano had a deep drive over the left fielders head. For the Giants - Pat Alston had 2 base hits and Dick Stark, with his great bat speed, had a hard smash thru the infield for a hit. Pat and Dick are 2 of the numerous great hitters on the Giants club. Jerry Solomon also pitched a very good game for the Giants, as usual. The Bluejays scored 4 runs in the first inning but Jerry didn't give in at all. He pitched with a lot of savy and tenacity - mixing his heavy and hard fast ball with his curve, change up and knuckle ball and kept it low and away - giving up only 1 more run the rest of the way. Two good baseball teams, a bunch of great people on both teams - what a great way to spend Friday evening!!! And to top off a great night and making the night even better - Suzy Caputo was there to support Ralph and the Bluejays!! Thanks for coming, Suzy!!!
