What a game, this is why we play, a hard fought game between 2 good teams that never quit. The Met's came out on top after 9 grueling innings 8-7 ( yes 9 innings ) after a long solo homerun by Mike Bintz. The game started out with the Met's threatening to score with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the top of the first only to come up empty. In the bottom the marlin's plated 6 that were all earned by a good hitting team. This must have warmed Lex Herrlett up as he only gave up 1 run over the last 8 innings to run his record to 3-0. The Met's chipped away with 2 in the 3rd and 2 more in the 5th. Then with 2 outs in the top of the 7th Mark Meyers got on by a error that would bring back memories to 1986 redsox fans. Next I drew a walk which brought rookie Dan Maynard who at the time already doulbled and singled. As you can imagine on a 2-1 pitched he homered to right to tie the score. As I said before this was a game for the ages. I am so proud of the guy's as they never quit . kudos to the marlins as they were tough as ever and Jim Ansel threw 5 great innings.Hope to see ya again this year. Met's now 6-3 Jim Bonaparte:
Congratulations to the Mets on a great comeback Friday night. This one will sting for the Marlins for some time as we will talk about what could have been "if this" and "if that". The bottom line is that Dan Maynard came up huge with that home run in the top of the seventh, as did the guy who hit the game winning homer in the top of the ninth, and Lex pitching that well after being knocked around pretty good in the top of the first. You guys earned a big one for your squad, and it should provide some good momentum for your team for weeks to come. Congrats and good luck with the rest of the year, and yes the Marlins are looking very forward to seeing you guys again down the road!
