Scott Card made his debut after recovering from numerous injuries and tossed 4 innings of 1-hit ball, and Pat Alston ripped a two-run single in the first inning to lead the Giants.
Wayne Phillips and Jim Keegan pitched the final 3. Scotty also walked and singled in 3 at-bats.
Dick Stark, batting in the leadoff spot for the first time this year, walked leading off the game. With two outs and Stark on 3rd, Philips walked and stole second setting up Pat's shot to left.
In the second, Stark unloaded a run-scoring triple. He added a single in the 4th.
Tom Quinn drove in the Giants 4th run, bringing home Marty Bailey in the 4th by pulling the ball to the right side with no outs and Bailey on third.
Read Shepherd got the only hit off Scott, a single down the linewith 2 outs in the second.
The White Sox broke through in the 6th. They loaded the bases with one out before Philips got a strikeout. But Rodney Dunbar lined a single to left to make it 4-1. Philips then enduced a popup to Keegan at second base to end the threat.
Keegan then got pitched a perfect 7th inning to seal the win.
Mark Johnson took the tough-luck loss for the Sox, wiggling out of jams in the first 4 innings before retiring the final 6 batters he faced.
