After waiting through countless delays, the Mutts 9:00 semi final game finally got underway at !:30 Sunday afternoon. The opponent was the Wayland, Mass team, made up primarily of two-time champion MiddlesexThunder players.
Playing through an on again off again rain, both teams played well as the Wayland team took a 1-0 lead into the last inning. They pushed across a few insurance runs, largely due to tough conditions to field and throw the ball, and then held on for the 4 -1 victory.
Soon after, the skies opened up again with a torrential downpour, and I'd be very surprised if the final was played.
All in all, even with the terrible weather, Maine is always a great trip. My felow comrades Tommy Maney and Caputo( Ralph had 7 hits in 3 games), T.J. Scorsese and "double D " Dunham, along with John Latorre represented Albany well. It was good to see Lenny, Cody and "Cowboy Murphy" again, as well as some new "Mainers" who joined our squad.
The rains, along with the closing of the "Crazy Clam" bar definately kept the ****tail count down, which probably contributed to our demise. However, these boys will be back.
Jonny Martin was right on! It was great to see everyone and have a good time, yet it would have been better had the weather cooperated. The final was played - Central Maine defeated Wayland 5-4 on a squeeze play. They did the same to us, when they tripped us up 6-5. The field was a total mess. However, I am looking forward to Labor Day with the Mutts and seeing you guys again. Let's hope no hurricane comes through this year and spoils things. Enjoy your regular season. -Lenny Fox (Ole Bean)
