Pirates 8 Cubs 7

Pirates and Cubs played a seesaw game on 7/16 at Bob Moore. The Cubs opened with 4 runs in the top of the 1st with the Pirates getting 2 in the bottom of the inning. With the Cubs held scoreless in the 2nd the Pirates scored 3 to take the lead 5-4. Not to be outdone, the Cubs tacked on 3 more in the 3rd to make it 7-5 in their favor, but the Pirates answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 7 apiece. Mike Kane continuing to pitch, ran into trouble in the 4th as the Cubs loaded the bases with no outs on an error and 2 singles. He was however able to get the next batter on a 1-2-3 double play and struck out the next Cub to end the threat. He then retired the next 9 out of 10 with the Pirates getting the go ahead run in the 5th. Both sides agreed it was a great deal of fun to play such a tight game that could have gone either way.

With wins over the Cubs and the Peppers, the Pirates record now stands at 10-4-1.

By the way, Mike Kane entered the Cubs game in the 4th and did not give up a run. Yet another game we don't win without him.

Sorry about the mistake. I was sleep deprived last night when I wrote the recap. Mike Kane pitched only 4-7. He did get the win, however.
