Friday night at New Scotland the Marlins held off a stubborn Pirates team 6-4. Both teams were playing without some regular contributors, but the pitching for both teams was as dependable as always. Mike Kane did a commendable job mixing speeds and locations, keeping the potent Marlins attack off balance. On a night when Jim Ansel did not have his best stuff, he gutted out five strong innings. Jim Latorre pitched an overpowering sixth inning to get the save. The umps made a "swami-like" call of the game due to darkness after the end of the sixth. As soon as we shook hands and got the tarps down the skies opened up and any thoughts of "what if we would have tried to play the seventh inning" were washed away. Great call guys!
