Substitute list

Can someone on the board or maybe a commsioners of the leagues please put together a list of mediocre/average/ acceptable/ available/scrubs (no disrespect to those that are allowed to play) players that can be called upon to sub for a game in the 38+ league when a team can't field enough players due to injuries, work committments, family or just plain tired of the daily grind.

As a member of the 38 Cubbies and 28 Nationals, and unfortunately an injured player for the last few weeks, I am alittle disappointed in the sportmanship and quite honestly panty waisted managers that claim a player is too good so therefore he is unacceptable to fill in for a team that is short handed. I guess instead maybe forfiets should not have to cost a team if this is the kind of begging one must make in order to field a team. In fact maybe the league is responsible for the shortage of players by allowing teams to be raided and expansion allowed because a mediocre field can be added to list of average fields we already play on. I don't know what to say except that as an expansion team last year we accomodated teams and made allowances to those experienced teams short handed. Dennis Maille could not be more honorable and sportsman. Why isn't the same courtesy being afforded his team, as well as others in need.

Quite honestly, for those of you who have told us a player is too good even though he may be a few weeks too young of turning 37, shove that $20 plastic winners trophy straight up your ASS!

Wow, I didn't know you could say ass on this website! I thought Kevin disabled that just like how you can't say @%&* Stark or Bucky F@#kn Dent.
That being said, the league does have rules on who can play. It has to be a member of the league with a signed waiver form, and it has to be approved by the other manager. I would suggest that people stop getting players that are not of age as yet. The only other rule is that they cannot pitch or catch.
I wish I were healthy enough to help you out, it would be nice to see Gene and yourself again under friendly circumstances.

I heard that some guys named Cal and Tony were in town, why not give them a call?

I tried but Cal said he was tied up and Tony got insulted when Alphabet said he could play. I hear Joe Fitz is up for induction next year. I'll be there to hear that speak. Queestion though, with Joe be holding a heineken or a Coors Light during the induction ceremony!

Speaking of waivers, just what are the requirements for seeking a waiver. About a month and a half ago we tried to get a waiver but was told the player was too good. I think if we have good players that are on the DL why can't they be replaced with a good player. Sounds like alot of I don't want to play with you because your toys appear bigger then mine. Last I knew even A-Rod can go 0 for 4 against a struggling team so the Too Good issue is just a bunch of BS. Besides everyone knows that third place is still the second loser.

My 2 cents:

I think if a league is going to have age restrictions it should at least try to stick to them. If a 38+ team brings in a 24 year old shortstop with a cannon arm, a 24 year old's range and the speed of a gazelle (sp?) that seems a bit unfair. However, if the team is trying to avoid forfeit and can find a 33-35 year old guy who hasn't played much but is looking to get back into playing ball then that should be considered.

The substitute list is a great idea. If you can get a solid list of 10 or so guys who can't commit to a team full-time but can be available on an "as need" basis I think it would benefit all involved.

Perhaps for 2008 we could get the league to post a "substitute list" on this site? The list could contain the player's age, primary position and experience? Might not be a bad idea......

My idea:
The age limit is the age limit.
Set it and stick to it.
No exceptions.
Then nobody is put in a bad spot.
