The satellite field in Voorheesville was the setting for an exciting Sunday morning baseball game. For 6 innings it was a classic pitchers' duel between Dennis Pierce of the WhizKids, and Bill Kervan of the Veterans, with the WhizKids holding a 3-1 lead. It became a slugfest in the 7th, with the Veterans scoring 5 runs, highlighted by Kervan's 2-run single that tied the game, then a single by Gino Mullany to put the Veterans in front. Then in the bottom of the frame, the WhizKids hit for the cycle! Joe Torre led off with a double, followed by a Don Dennis single. Darrell Duncan brought them both home with a triple to get the WhizKids within 1 run. Ed Klopfer then hit a booming inside the park homerun to left field (there is no fence at the satellite field, so he had to leg this one out!). In game 2, the WhizKids' bats stayed hot, as they scored 5 runs in both the 1st and 2nd, and 6 runs in the 3rd, giving Duncan more than enough support to notch his 3rd victory. Veterans manager Tony Scanu has assembled a classy group of guys, so it's always a pleasure when we meet on the diamond. Good luck in the playoffs. Jim Porter-Manager-WhizKids
The only way Duncan gets a triple is if he's on the saddle and one of his horses legs it out for him. Hell, by the time he gets to 3rd, the game is called because of darkness! Nice job Whiz. You guys beat a solid team. JimK
