Game two of the A's - Silver Marlins series was another thriller. Kevin Moon vs. Darrell Duncan. Both pitchers did well keeping opposing batters uncomfortable in the box. Darrell with his "butterfly", and Moonie with his fastball. The Marlins got two off of Kevin in the first, but were unable to get any more until the sixth. The A's got 1 in the bottom of the first and 2 in the bottom of the second, before Darrell settled in. It remained 3-2 until the top of the sixth when the Marlins loaded the bases with no outs. Kevin was on fumes after pithing an emotional 1-hitter for the 28+ A's on Saturday, but allowed only one run (on a nasty pitch that the A's catcher could not glove). He gave his all and was lifted in favor of Brian Kent in the top of the seventh. The Marlins plated three in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead. The A's showed their heart, yet again, in the bottom of the seventh, as they scored one run and had runners on second and third when Marlins third baseman, Ron Lochner, fielded a hot smash and threw to first to end the game. If Ronnie doesn't make that play, the A's tie the game and have the winning run in scoring position. GREAT GAME! The Silver Marlins move on to the semi's to face the red hot Giants, but we had all we could handle with this A's club. Congrats on a great series guys!
The A's played great baseball, again. What a comment on the strength of the league that a team that good ended up finishing at .500. They have hitters throughout the lineup and great pitching, and they play the game the way it should be played with no give up in them.
Ron's play was huge, but you forgot to mention that Tom Maney made a diving catch in left center with two men on in the bottom of the seventh that also saved the game. Not bad for a guy with a separated shoulder.
