Game one of the 47+ semifinals was played last night at "A" Diamond with the Yankees winning a tight one and taking a 1-0 lead in the best of three series. Hornets went up 1-0 in the third but the Yankees fought back for two in the bottom half. Hornets tied it at 2 in the fifth but the Yankees scored three times in the bottom of the sixth with two outs on a two run single by Dave Latina and a rbi double by VanGelder.
The Hornets made the game interesting with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh but with runners on second and third and two down Ralph Caputo got a swinging strike from the Hornets hitter to end the game.
Art Gianakos went five innings giving up just two runs on 6 hits for the Yankees and Jim Konstantakis went the distance for the Hornets.
Game two is Sunday at 1:30pm at New Scotland Town Park.
