The Yankees were crowned 2007 champions by beating the defending champion Golden Marlins and Yankee-killer Jim Ansel 5-4 to sweep the final series 2-0. Jerry Solomon scattered 9 hits in 6-plus innings to get his second win of the series and third in the playoffs. Ralph Caputo came on to end a Marlins rally and get the save. The offense featured doubles by Ralph, Paul Celentano and Wayne Newcomb. After each team scored a run in the first, the Yankees then took the lead for good on a Ralph Caputo single in the third. Art Gianakos entered retirement by adding a RBI single in the 4th, then Ralph and Steve VanGelder added RBI hits in the 5th. The Yanks led 5-1 going to the bottom of the 7th and had just enough to hold off a Marlin rally featuring a two run double by Skip Treece. Second baseman Newcomb squeezed a pop-fly for the last out with the tying run in scoring position.
Way to go Yanks; You guys are champs on and off the field. I love the way you guys play the game, you win and have a helluva good time doing it. We came up short, but it was a joy to be on the field with each and every one of you. Congrats Tom Maney
Nice pic on the front page of the site. congrats Yankees, mgr Paul and players.
Fierce competition in the 47's this year. When we started it looked just about like any of the teams could triumph. In the end the quality team won out. We never beat the Yanks all year, they had our number. Now WE have the "only ifs" and the offseason to repair and replenish with the other also rans.
Notable here is guys like Ed, Paul, Todd , Art and Wayne who have played for years in the CDMSBL and now have their trophy. They are dedicated and talented players who long deserved this. they paid there dues then some. From , Blue Jays , Dodgers and Ray's Tav, and Avis and Adirondack Beverage , from the cellar, to the spoiler, to finalist to 2007 champions. Not to dilute the experience for Ralph and Mike A., Steve, Dave, Mike E., Jerry, Ken...great bunch that gelled , rolled , and bowled over the division and succeeded. Enjoy Yanks. J Reel, Goldens MGR.
