O's v. Jays and forfeit philosophy ...

... This, my fellow CDMSBL family, is exactly what I am talking about re: forfeits.

Bear with me here as I paint the picture.
First, Chris Abrams called me in the morning to get the phone numbers of a few of my 46 players who might want to help out the Orioles. He had no luck.

I called O's manager Paul Scutieri about 3:30 and he said he had 9, so he'd be OK. He then called me back about 5 minutes later to say he needed me to play for him 'cause he only had 8.

I, being the manager of the Giants, a team who is very competitive with the Orioles, could have said "no'' and let them possibly forfeit, which would then get us in a tie near the top of the standings. And, of course, the accompanying $125 forfeit fine.

To me, it would be unconscienable to do that. We are all friends here. To a man, even the Marlins, who are more competitive with the defending champion O's than any other team, would not have objected to me or anyone else helping out the O's. Competitive teams, and players with a perspective and conscience, want to play ball at all costs.

And just to take it another step, just read all the letters to the editor in Hardball magazine, and make a judgment for yourself on the perspective MSBL plays in our lives.

Sorry, I really thought I was done with this, but ...
Regards
