A sweltering night for a highly competitive game. Pitching and defense ruled the day through 6 innings as the score entering the seventh inning was Marlins 2 - Mets 1. I think that the extreme heat wore down the pitchers and defense, as the Marlins scored 4 in the top of the seventh and the Mets answered with 3 in the bottom half. Both Starting pitchers were gone after four innings due to injury. Chris Dunn pulled his quad, covering home plate after a wild pitch in the fourth. Chuck Sohl took himself out before the start of the fifth when he reinjured his knee in warm-ups. The runs that the Mets scored in the bottom of the seventh were the first earned runs scored against the Marlins this season. It took until the seventh inning of the fourth game for the Marlins pitching staff to give up their first earned runs of the year! Great job guys!!! The streak was broken with a Bonaparte walk followed by hard hit doubles by Maynard and Burns. Ron Lochner, Paul Miles, and Mike Girard had two hit games for the Silvers, who move their record to 4-0. Good luck to the Mets the rest of the way. We look forward to our rematch in July.
In what I hope springs a new rivalry, Congrats to the Marlins on a hard fought win. This was a emtremely close game all the way through, and as Mike said the heat was brutal. We look forwards to July for the rematch. Also for the Mets Tony Parella hit a long double and Ryan Johnson had a hard single and some hard luck that was caught in right on a rocket that the right fielder caught to double off Tony to end a Mets threat.
