The Braves held on to beat the Cubs 5 to 4 at West Albany Saturday night. Ed Rogers pitched a complete game for the Braves win.
Cubs went ahead 2 to 0 early, but the Braves plated 2 to tie the game in the 4th, and scored 3 more in the 5th to go ahead 5 to 2. The Cubs rallied in the bottom of the 7th, scoring twice, but the game ended with 2 runners left on base.
Overall a well played game, and a much needed win for the Braves - just their second on the season.
Congratulations to the Braves on a great win. Just a gutsy performance by old friend and former teamate Ed Rogers on the hill. Donnie "baseball" Ball with a couple of big hits, Mike Lebarge with a typical strong game behind the dish.
Hats off to you former Cubbies - You deserved the victory.
Thanks for a fun game cub's....and Jonny.. if we weren't playing on astro turf..and the basepath was so soft and the sun wasn't in my eyes..you would have never thrown me out at first from right field...well, it would have been closer anyway...good luck the rest of the year...
I have the score book from the game and I was planning to post a statistical review of the game. Who got the hits, the RBIs, just how well did Ed pitch (he pitched great)....But seeing the nice comments from Jonny Martin and Tom Maney, two of the most respected members of our league, was more meaningful than anything I could add.
So on behalf of the Braves I will thank the Cubs for playing a great game and for supporting our efforts. For the fans in the bleachers and for the kids from West Albany who hang out at the ball park, you guys are true ambassadors of our league. You play the game the right way and seemed to take as much pleasure in our successes as your own.
I would also like to thank Ted Martin for reminding this first baseman that it would be a good idea to hold on the potential tying run in the bottom of the 7th.
