On a beautiful night for baseball, the Highlanders outlasted the Braves on Wednesday night at New Scotland Field. Roohan was the winning pitcher and Beck was the losing pitcher. The game was tighter than the score would indicate as the Highlanders were fortunate enough to bunch some hits for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kevin Jackson led the hitting for the Highlanders with three hits, including a long home run over the left field fence. The Braves were led by two hits apiece for Beck and Obertubessing.
A couple of corrections. I'm happy to note that Ball - not Beck - had two hits along with Obertebussing. Unfortunately it was also Ball - not Beck - that got shellacked on the mound. The Highlanders hit most of the pitches that I threw for strikes and quite of few of the pitches that I threw out of the strike zone! Great display of hiting by the Highlanders.
One of those hits by the Highlanders was a monster blast over the left field fence by Kevin Jackson - he did not need to make use of his courtesy runner for that one!
