At a perfectly groomed and prepared Schenectady "B" Diamond, the Reds came prepared with a very good team and very good pitching - defeating the Bluejays by a score of 7-2. Joe Sarubbi pitched a great game - going the distance. Joe's fast ball had some good pop and he used his curve and change-up to keep the Jays hitters off balance. The Reds led 1-0 through 3 innings. In the top of the 4th, the Reds added 3 runs, highlighted by a triple Vince Koster, driving in 2 runs. The Reds also scored one run in the 6th inning and 2 more in the 7th. The Jays scored single runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Hitting highlights for the Reds included the triple by Koster plus 2 additonal singles; 2 singles by Dennis Reuter; 2 singles by John Clapper and 2 singles by Gangley. Jays hitting highlights included 2 singles by Dave Latina and 2 singles by Dave Webber. Andy Sheen started on the hill for the Jays and pitched well - however was hurt by some costly errors. Mike Maiello relieved in the fifth inning and finished the game. The Jays were glad to see our former manager and team mate, Art Gianokas at the game - helping out the Reds. Art never declines a request to help out another team. As I watched Art play third base and work our pitchers while at bat, I was again reminded how much Art has done for our league - starting so many teams, bringing in so many players into the league and giving them the opportunity to play ball again (including myself), and bringing so many teams to the tournaments in Florida. Art, again, thank you for all you have done and we look forward to seeing you play in the years to come. Congratulations to the Reds on a very good win.
