I know the Cubs wanted to play. I win would have sewed up the #3 seed. Can't speak for the Shasky's, but a win by them and they would have jumped up to the 13 seed.
Multiple factors contributed to the Cubs only playing 18 games this year and for the first time in over 14 years failing to play a full schedule. (along with half the teams in the 37 division) The WhiteSox refusal to reschedule our game, rain on Thursday against the Shaskys, and the Plan A consensus of 37 managers for the playoffs land us at 12-6 and the #4 seed. Would have been nice to play these games as one win would have given us the #3 seed and a second win would have given us the #2 seed. Hopefully we can work together in the off-season to make changes so that this does not happen next year and we all get to play every game scheduled. Additionally disturbing for our division is that for six teams the season ends today on August 9th?????
