The Little League field in Rensselaer has suffered enormous damage due to the recent flooding in the city.
We're waiting on an estimate, but it's certain to be six figures when you consider the field, the structures, equipment, etc. It hurts to look at the photos let alone to see it in person.
We need help. There likely won't be a fall program that the organization started up in recent years, but there is also a good chance the field won't be playable next year as well if work isn't done fast.
Donations can be sent to Rensselaer Little League in c/o Key Bank, 16 Second Ave., Rensselaer 12144. Or, make a check out to the LL and give it to me and I'll get it to Doreen VanVorst at the bank. You can also stop in at any Key Bank branch office and give it to one of the officers there.
We have a number of players in CDMSBL who live in Rensselaer, or are alumni of the LL This is a good chance to get our name out there. County Legislator Mike Stammel, R-Rensselaer, LL President Tom Burgess and I will be interviewed on Fox news tonight. I'm hoping the assessment of damages will be made public tonight.
This is a great chance to get our name out there, but most importantly help the children of a baseball organization facing desperate times.
I also believe a work party will be scheduled as well. Tools and equipment are needed as much as man power. I will folo with details.
Thanx much. Jim Konstantakis CDMSBL board member Giants manager
Just sent it to my buddies at OCFS. The agency's home office is located in Rensselaer and they have had an active mentoring program with the School. Hopefully they can help...
Anybody has connections with Uncle Joe (Bruno)??? I think he would gladly help out...
Growing up in Rensselaer all of my life I can tell you that this flood can have a major impact on these kids. Alot of these kids do not have much and a Fall and Summer without baseball can really affect them. I hope our league steps up to the plate for this cause and any other causes which help people and promote the great game of baseball. Hopefully with some financial and physical help the field will be ready to go soon.
