What a start to the championship series of the 37+ Division.
Giants came back from a 4-1 deficit to tie it at 4 before scoring three runs in the top of the 8th for a 7-4 lead. Dan Maguire's sharp two-run single to right capped the inning.
The Cubs, however, didn't panic and answered with 4 to win it, mostly aided by 4 walks in the inning.
Don't have the book with me at the moment, so I'm hoping Jim McQuade will provide some input.
Cubs score a first inning run against Giants' starter Jerry Solomon on a Tom Maney leadoff single, stolen base and pitcher Joe Fitzgerald's RBI single. Giants answer with a third inning run started by a Billy Smith single. Cubs score three more runs in the fourth highlighted by a TJ Scorsone 2-run double and a Ron Massaroni RBI single. Giants answer with a three-run sixth to tie things up as Lounello, Philips, and Malachowski all singled in the inning. Game went to the eighth still tied when the Giants erupted for three runs as Philips, Malachowski, Maguire, and Arduini had consecutive singles. Cubs appeared dead but Giants' walks and key hits from Scorsone and Maney completed the four-run rally. Great opening game to the Finals in the books and Wednesday night the Giants will look to even the series as the Cubs look for the clincher...should be another great game.
