labor day final, 45s

in case you missed it, the bristol baseball club beat the HOGs (hornets, orioles, giants), blanking them by a score i'm not sure of - it was 5-0, 6-0, or 7-0 - at the a diamond to take the 45 title in the labor day tournament.

i don't know all the ins & outs - my dog lucas and i caught only the last two innings, and lucas was more interested in sniffing the trees - but i was told the bristol pitcher, a hard-throwing lefty, threw a perfect game for 6 1/3 innings. dick stark broke it up with a sharp line-drive double to left.

the victory also means that bristol is the first team other than the golden marlins to take the 45s since that division's tournament started in 2004. that's a nice four-year run by the marlins.

jimmy k. or someone else from the clubs can add the details if they're inclined of a game that was played on pretty, sunny morning, a nice way to start labor day.

hats off to bristol and the hogs.

Hello,
I am the hard-throwing lefty for Bristol who threw today against the Hornets, although i have never had the term hard throwing describe me before. Just wanted to commend Kevin Jackson for putting together another great tournament. We had great weather, fields were nice again and i supported the New York economy with my Connecticut dollars the last 2 nights at the Saratoga Slots. It is about the 7th or 8th time I have played in this tournament and have never had a negative thing happen. Although i would have liked to have had some revenge against the Marlins for last years final game loss, I appreciated the after game compliments (and beer) from the Hornets team. The one day rest from Saturdays game proved to be very helpful compared to all the other years of throwing 3 days in a row. Look forward to seeing you all next year.

Chris,

First of all congrats on the championship. We knew Bristol would be half of the final with you on the bump (hard throwing and all) and we were looking forward to honoring your request for a rematch but the Hornets proved to be too much for us in the semi and deserved to be the other half of the final. Your a class group of guys and a solid ball club that we look forward to playing each year. This year just wasn't it...
Again, nice job this weekend.

The final was 6-0, but 2-0 entering the 5th.

Stark lined a single to left to break up the no-no and Mike Labanowski followed with a line single down the right-field line. Had the game been played at New Scotland, Stark and Jack Perry would each have hit two HRs. They were bombs that their OFers ran down with their backs to the plate. That OF was so good, it seemed like they had 4 of them out there.

Regardless, Bristol plays solid, fundamental baseball. They are a unified, experienced travel team with a sponsor and we were just one of six local teams thrown together to pass the weekend. It was fun, which is all we wanted to experience after a long, gruelling playoffs in our own league.

I believe the 45 wood bat tournament should be played on a field that suits that age bracket better. The dimensions at the A Diamond don't suit a 45 wood-bat championship game.

I think that Heritage Park is partially standing...
