Boy that looks like a great mix of some veterans mixed in with alot of new talent. Great job Q!!! You guys should put together a team and go down to Florida for the Fall Classic and show the whole country how much talent we have here in Albany! It is a great time and you have enough talent to compete for a national championship and get some rings! They look great on your hand during the long cold winter!
I would love to put a team together from the 25's to go to the fall classic and represent Albany. The only thing that stinks is that most of the guys on my team are teachers and its hard for us to get that kind of time off to go to florida and play. Still weighing my options though................never say never
I'll be at the Joe and maybe over to the first game at the A diamond. I saw a few games this year and was impressed with the over all talent level in the 25's. I still root for my old franchise the Belmont Cafe turned National Batting Center ( remember that place, some of you probalby had your 10th birthday there!) turned Cardinals , turned Marlins, turned Nationals. and by the way the elder franchise in this 19 year old league. congrats to Nationals Fred, Joe and Bobby and all you all stars.
the florda classic divison to consider is the short wood tounry held from thursday to sunday. fly down wed evening return Sunday evening only 2 days off work. there is age brackets in that (18, 25,35, 45) . 4 nights stay and an airfare of $200. priced down condos and roomies cut the cost. the enrty is per person and you need 14 min per rule. its $138 per man. the following week the metal divsions play. M-sat.
I know that you are going to Md over Columbus day weekend for that MSBL regional. you'll find that is a tune -up for Arizona ( the mother of all adult tournies) and its sister tourny the Fall Classic. You'll find that many of you will be approached to join teams and perhaps that is the first step. I know Joe DeMarco played with Syracuse and won a ring in just such a move. but its time to take a full Albany team to the nationals. late this year so lets make it happen next year.
John I was not aware of a wed through sunday tourney. I could def. get 2 days off from work. I can start getting in guys ears now and get a 25 team to go to the fall classic maybe next year.
As Mr. Reel stated, many of you will likely be approached by other managers down there. And meeting new people is what makes this so intriguing. You'll have new friends for life. And that opens up opportunities even outside baseball.
We had a guy from Florida on our team four years ago when we beat Puerto Rico to make the playoff round. He actually made the game-saving play at 1B to clinch it for us. And today Phil Stillwell is someone I still talk to all the time. Had he not been injured, he'd be with us again this year. This year is a reunion of sorts for us. Three guys from Dutchess County - all of whom won rings in 2002 and were with me in 2004 when we beat PR, are again joining us.
But Q, I just want to alert you to something. If you do take a team to Fla., thinking you are going to go just once for the experience: fugget about it! I did that and have now gone five of the past 6 years and am going again this year. So, tell your teachers to negotiate in their union contracts a school shutdown clause for the first week of November! And I can tell you this: If you win the Md. tournament, start setting up a banking account 'cause you will be doing a lot of traveling. It's a great high and you'll want to ride that train again.
And one thing everyone should know is that there is no better area to prepare for tournaments than to play against the everyday competition here in Albany. Ask St. Louis, Puerto Rico, Detroit, San Antonio, Pensacola, New Jersey, and on and on ...
Two rings since 2002 and many trips to the playoff round. Mike G., if you still can muster up the recap of your 45 championship team from 2006, post it again. I can't imagine the 25s aren't fired up for this, but just in case they want that little extra nudge, reading your recap will certainly have the effect of that extra once of Red Bull. Good luck 25s.
