The Hornets pounded out 22 hits on their way to a 22-4 win and a series sweep over the Whiz Kids last night at Cook Park in Colonie.
Everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit and 7 guys had multiple hit games; Jim Konstantakis picked up his second win of the playoffs.
The Hornets await the winner of the Marlins/Yankees series which resumes tonight (weather willing) with game two at Cook Park at 6:15pm. The Marlins won the first game of the best of three matchup with a 6-1 win in game one.
Congratulations to the Hornets (and a nice appearance by the original manager, Hondo!). The WhizKids had no answer for that solid lineup. Best of luck in the next round. Jim Porter-Manager-WhizKids
I'll drink to that Mike! (But like you, I'll drink to almost anything). You never know what you'll get from Porter's group, that's why they beat the Sox. We were lucky in that they left their "A'' game at home in the semis. But they never quit on each other. Great bunch of guys that reflect on their manager. And it was nice that they had a cold one with us after the game.
And let's not forget they played all or most of the season without Darrell, Dennis Pierce and Maz, all out with injuries.
And yes, it sure was good to see Hondo again. He just got home after spending a tour in Iraq. He founded the Hornets, and he still hit one of the longest HRs I've ever seen in this league - a good 40 feet beyond the fence in left-center at CBA, and with a wood bat!
