The Hornets scored 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth to wipe out a 4-3 Yankee lead and win a game called after five innings by darkness.

Chris Abrams went the distance allowing two earned runs and striking out four. Joe Burns took the loss for the Yankees in relief of starter Jerry Soloman.

Jim Whitford led the Hornets offense with three hits. Ron Smaka, Bob Bolt and Dick Stark each had two hits.

Steve Vangelder, Mike Eplite, Rick Caruso and Heb Friedman accounted for all eight Yankee hits.

The Hornets move to 2-0 and the Yankees drop to 0-1.
