As some of you may have heard there is a new baseball team coming into town called the Albany Dutchman (dutchmanbaseball.com).
Open Up Your Home To A College Athlete
This year, approximately 27 young men from across the country will move into the Albany area for the summer to play baseball for the Albany Dutchman of the NYCBL. From June 1st until July 31st, these aspiring athletes will be honing their skills on the field. They will play 42 games (21 home and 21 away) and some will also hold down part time jobs or take summer classes. The Dutchman players will be coming from some of the best programs in the NCAA and know what it takes to work hard and dedicate themselves to pursuing their dream of playing professional baseball.
Over the 31 year history of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, the host family program has always been a vital part of every team's success, both on and off the field. Allowing the players to "become a member of a local family" helps them acheive a sense of normalcy and comfort in a strange, new city. The players become more then just guests, they become like members of the family.
Here's the Pitch
-Provide a home for a Dutchman player or players during the baseball season -Your family receives a small stipend as our way of saying "thank you" -Your family will receive season tickets for all Dutchman home games. -Your family will receive invitations to the Meet n Greet party and a host family picnic during the season. -Your will receive host family t-shirts -Your family will receive a discount on all team merchandise. -Host family children may attend clinics free of charge -You have the chance to make a positive impact on the future of a young man -Your player/guest will be a positive influence on your children (and a built in coach) -You just might be getting to know a future Major League Baseball Player.....and developing a long term relationship.

This sort of thing is really cool. My father plays "host family" for a Brewster Whitecap every year for the Cape Cod Baseball League. Most of these kids are really good kids and are generally very grateful for your hospitality.
My nephew esssentially gets free baseball clinics every year from some of the top college players in the country. My fatehr even got to bear witness to contract negotiations as the kid he housed last year was drafted by the Rays and fielded tons of phone calls from his agent on my dad's phone.
Really cool gig if you can swing it, and if my house wasn't so small I'd be doing it for sure.
