father-son baseball

just came back from playing in the first annual father-son baseball games, and I can tell you that they were a success in every sense of the word. For you fellas who were thinking about it and never got around to getting involved for one reason or the other, you and your kid missed a great time. I personally was able to step on the field with my 2 sons, ages 29 and 24. Never thought I would see the day where that would happen, but man what fun! WE ALL had a great time playing the game we love. Moms, siblings were there, grand kids, pets, all rooting on their favorite players. Relaxed, laid back and fun. BIG thanks to Don Wixon for putting this together. Can't wait till next year. Thanks again Don. Hey baseball!

I would have to agree with Pete in that the day and games were a success. It was a fun time to play with my father in law who enjoyed it so much he is considering joining the league next year.

Pete if you want to pitch in the 25's that slider is NASTY! You always have a spot on the Rockies.

Great job by all who played.

I agree with the above. It was great to play baseball with my son. Something that I did not think would ever happen. And the best part was that I outhit him in the game. The old man still has something left in the tank. Another great memory of the game would have to be the one inning when the bases were loaded with Meyers, and another Meyers was at the plate. Thanks Don for making this day possible.

I have a feeling that this game will just keep gettting bigger and bigger.

My thanks go out to all the father's and son's for making the inaugural Father-Son Games a success. Also, thank you for the support of the families; wives, mothers, sisters, and daughter's. Their vocal prescence inspired all the players. Special thanks go to the umpire's, Kevin Jackson, John Kalinski and Steve VanGelder, who volunteered their time. Without their participation the games certainly would not have been as smoothly played. Also, thank you Judy Rodriguez, wife of Gino, for being our roving photography for the first game. Thanks to those of you who manned the grills allowing my son and I to play in the second game. I know some of the "grillers" were Josh Wixon, Mark Meyers and Randy Craft.

For those of you who had signed up for the games on the originally scheduled date of June 21, Father's Day, I'm sorry you were not able to fit the new date into your schedules. But next year come on out. I still have some very sturdy T-shirts imprinted with the "1st Annual Father-Son Games", for sale for $5. If you are interested in purchasing any, contact me through the bullentin board or e-mail me at: dbballwixon@aol.com.

Pride was on display Sunday. You could see it in the eye's of dad's as they ran out onto the field taking their positions along side of their sons. The excitement for baseball was rekindled for the son's, even if it was for a single day. Yet, talking to many of the son's, it sounds like several want to starting playing the game again, the game their dad's are so passionate about. I think we might have some new recruits for the league.

Hopefully, these Games will become part of the fabric of CDMSBL for many years to come.
