Richie Knaupp (5 IP) and Todd Calhoun (2 IP) combined for a one-hit shutout. In two games, Pirates pitching has yielded 3 hits, 0 walks, 0 earned runs. Meaning that it's taken them 14 innings to accomplish what this "retired" pitcher used to routinely surrender in just three batters.
Slugging third-baseman Carlo Agneta became the first Pirate to legitimately go yard at Bethlehem, breaking up a scoreless game with a three-run, two-out bomb that easily cleared the leftfield fence.
(Insert steroid joke here.)
Manager Dana Hanson got the lone hit for the Jays, a clean single to center in the first inning. Dana -- with able assists from Al Hart and Dan Maguire -- has done a great job setting a positive tone and recruiting some talented new players for the bluebirds. As this group comes together and gains experience, I expect them to become a vastly improved team. They already play with heart and pride. In fact, I'm heading to Vegas now to place a $5 bet on Dana for Manager of the Year. Nice job, keep it up.
