After almost two weeks of rainouts, the A's and Silver Marlins met on the diamond at New Scotland on a perfect night for some baseball. The Marlins got off to a quick start in the top of the first, plating five on a RBI single by Darnell Baker and a grand slam home run by Mike Girard. The A's got one in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Ed Class. The Marlins pushed the lead to 8-1 with 1 run in the second and two in the third. This A's team never lets up, and they scored three in the bottom of the third on key hits from Wayne Newcombe, Scott Clement, and John Reel (yes, John Reel) to make it 8-4. In the bottom of the fourth, Phil Gadomski came on for the Marlins, in relief of starter Chuck Sohl, and limitted the A's to just one run and six hits, while striking out two. The Marlins plated 5 more runs over the last four innings on two hits each by Sohl and Mike Lacoture, making the final score 13-5. Chuck Sohl was making his first appearance for the Marlins, since leaving a semi-final game last year with an injured foot. He was 2-2 at the plate, with a walk and a HBP and scored three runs, while also being the winning pitcher. Welcome back Chuck!!! Paul Miles, Ron Lochner, Darnell Baker, Curt Coons, and Jim Ansel also had two hit games for the Fish. Wayne Newcombe, Ed Class, Scott Clement, and John Reel had two hit games for the A's. Oh yeah, I probably should explain . . . the A's had a late cancellation and only had eight players, so John Reel graciously volunteered to play right field for the A's. It is just the kind of gentleman that John Reel is!!! Good luck A's in the playoffs.
