The Dodgers pulled out a 4 to 2 victory over the Cougars on a sunny Sunday. It was good to play ball again.Leading the way for the Dodgers were Mike LaBarge and John Reardon each with 2 hits. The Cougars as always played hard the whole game and battled untill the last out.
As you may recall, last month I walked 13 Black Sox batters and won 4-2. On Sunday I did not walk a single Dodgers batter and lost 4-2.
Well, I guess that's baseball for you.
Actually, it was a simple case of my being "wild in the strike zone" in the latter game. That is, I threw a few too many belt-high fastballs to some very capable Dodgers hitters.
And then there's the pitcher's worst nightmare, the dreaded hanging slider. Nick Kanellis committed a vicious assault on one of those for a double that found its way into the center field jungle at Satellite.
Anyway, congratulations to Ed Rogers, who pitched superbly once again (and with a bad leg, to boot), and to the entire Dodgers team on a well-played game.
And special thanks to fill-in player Don Wixon, who turned a beautiful double play at second base and chipped in a single and scored a run for the Cougars.
Don seems to raise the level of play of those around him whenever he steps onto the field. You just couldn't ask for a better teammate.
In fact, I have asked Don to look into the possibility of securing a release from the Black Sox manager so that he may join the Cougars.
Thanks for giving me a chance to play with your Cougars Frank. A solid bunch of men who play their heart's out every game. It was a most competitive game to play in, and congratulations to the Dodger's on their win. I spoke to the manager of the Black Sox, that crusty sob, and he let me know, in no uncertain terms, that he would love to get rid of me, but the enormous amount of dinero that my contract calls for makes that an impossibility. See you guys on the diamond.
