Cubs-Outlaws

This game was scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Swift Road, which, of course, is the morning after a rain-soaked Friday. No one thought this game would get played. But it did.

The grounds crew there should be working Yankee Stadium. Unbelievable job. When we arrived, the guy working the field was just about finishing up. He must have been there at 6 a.m. That infield was prestine. Some standing water in the infield and outfield, but not enough to prevent the game from being played.

We keep thanking them; wish there was more we could do.

As Jimmy says, another great save by Darrell and his crew! Don't know the guy's name that worked on the field yesterday but he is awesome.....dragging the infield, rolling the water off the grass, lining the basepaths etc. (btw..field sat idle again after our game) And Jim...as far as thanking them I think we can and should do more...Carlos had a good idea yesterday regarding purchasing new tarps for the mound/plate areas and I'm sure we can think about more items we can purchase for the field and or maintenance equipment etc.

As far as the outcome..it was a shame they worked on the field for so long to only play 5 innings on it for the entire day as the Outlaws crushed the Cubs 13-2. Cubs only managed one hit against Freddy M. and the Outlaws slugged three home runs (Lounello, Novak, Llera). Also a scheduling snafu and my failure to check led to no umps for the game. Jimmy K. filled in nicely and did a great job as always.
