It is not going to be made up. Carlos Llera told me Tuesday night that he had tried to get Jerry Hawkins to schedule a make-up, but Jerry turned down every offer. Seeds 2-7 are affected by this game not getting played, and apparently it is our seeding system's fault. When a team that is 12-6-0 is considered ahead of a team that is 12-6-1 in the standings, there is no incentive for re-scheduling a make-up game. I really think if we went to a system of awarding two points for a win and one point for a tie, and made the team with the higher points total the higher seed, then all of the managers in tight races would have all the incentive that they need to get the games in. Just one man's opinion.
If I am not mistaken, this game was to have been played in Kingston and the Outlaws wanted it moved to Albany or they could not play it. I think one of the offers was to play as part of a doubleheader tonight after the Marlins game. Let's see, lose the home field advantage and play a second game, not much of AN OFFER to me!! Why is it that some teams just refuse to make the commitment to travel 1 day out of the year?
Amateur leagues like AABC and NABF count all unplayed games as a loss for seeding playoffs..that would be incentive enough. It's not a forfeit...but will hurt your seeding only
But in this case - Outlaws / Humminbirds - who takes the loss? The H'Birds had the game scheduled in Kingston. They were asked to change it. That would be the Outlaws loss - the Humminbirds had the field and open date for both teams set up. You are penalizing one team (Humminbirds) for the other dragging it's feet.
And the A's/White Sox had every intention to play the last game, but Colonie never got back to K Jackson so we could play it, so we take a loss?
Just go with the percentages. It can go back to the commissioner making sure that the game is rescheduled quickly and appropriately.
As a commissioner in the past what I did with make-ups was give the manager's 48 hours to make a decision as to when they would play and I would plug in the field. If after 2 days a decision wasn't rendered to me I then scheduled the game at my convenience. This worked in the 25 division with no problems. Doing it like this prevents so many games from being backed up and having to play 5 games in 3 days.
the 25, 45, have it easy really. its this 35 divsion that has the problem due to a lack of fields and a shorter time frame. haveing mgr. decide wthout the knowledge of what fields are open is a useless step. unte=il we get a better handle on this divsion or it recedes a bit in teams has the boomers move on we'll always be saying the samethting every year.

Q
In this case, Q, that wouldn't work. The Hummin'bird as a team all live in the Kingston area and have to come up here for ten games a season, meanwhile the rest of the Albany based teams have to travel to Kingston only once per season. The Hummin'birds shouldn't be expected to lose a Kingston game and make it up in the Albany area.
The Outlaws should've accepted the forfeit if they coudn't make the trip to Kingston. Commissioners are put in place to give a human element to rules and use common sense to interpret the rules. How could any Commish honestly force the Hummin'birds to make an extra travel day - it's patently unfair.
