using our "constant fans"?

LORI writes a welcome note at the end of the "proud for cdmsbl" string, saying that she wouldn't mind being the designated collector for the marlins' used equipment and holding it for the donation day next year.

my initial reaction was that's a fine idea, lori. thank you. if the m's manager says ok, then go for it.

but lori's offer also set off another thought: on almost every team we have what i'd call "constant fans." these are people - often it's a wife, a girlfriend or a father or mother of a player - who shows almost all the time and does terrific work keeping score, bringing foods, having liniment ready or taking photos, while enjoying the sun, talking with friends and taking in a game.

the league may want to think of various ways to extend our "constant fans" participation.
certainly, acting as a collector for kids' equipment would be one good way, but i wonder, too, if other roles might be considered?

for example, during the season we have a handful of managers or players who regularly write up their teams' game stories on the bulletin board. mike girard, dennis scimeca, jim mcquade, mike epilite, don wixon, jim bonaparte, tony nardacci, doug reisinger and jim porter instantly pop to mind. i know there are others i'm forgetting.

my point is, if managers or players don't have the time or inclination to write up the stories, then why not ask one of our "constant fans" do it? i've been sorry to see that in the past year or two there've been fewer game reports on the bulletin board, and in a way i think that lessens the "cdmsbl experience" for us all. (if someone in the 18s, say, hits for the cycle, or tosses a no-hitter, i'd love to read it.)

even though i'm retired and (supposedly) have more time now, i don't think i'm alone in wanting to read reports of what's going on in each age division - they needn't be as long as 40-foot sails i put up, lord no - but a few well chosen lines about some terrific plays can celebrate players, enrich the baseball experience for us all, and serve as a basis for whatever history we may one day put together.

and the funnier (remember jim preller's howlers?), the better.

anyway, i suggest that this winter the league might consider some things our "constant fans" may be able to do, and then, ways we can recognize them.

who knows? this might lead to a "permanent cdmsbl history" button on the website?

-mike

Your right Mike on this. It was usually the winning manager who would post the info. and give the other team's info. who did well for them. I too miss the updates as they gave us
an opportunity to be closer to the league and the individual teams.

In the 55 Division, some of the managers HAVE written recaps. Recaps (if submitted) can be found by clicking on the particular contest under Game Results. Please visit!!

Some teams do it while others do not!
