On Mon. 5/23 at the Knick, the Fordians (3-1), behind the bats of Joe Hauser, Pat Alston, and Rodney Dunbar, and the gritty pitching of Biily Ferris, beat the Hummingbirds 5 - 3. Ferris, turning Mgr. Jim Dalton into Earl Weaver, wriggled out of jams, scattering 9 hits, walking 4 and striking out 5, including the final out of the game and the bases loaded with 'Birds.....Ferris improves to 3-0, with 3 CG while lowering his ERA to 1.94. John LaTorre took the loss for Kingston.
Waterford broke on top 3-0, in the top of the 2nd, on a BB, Alston two-bagger, and Dalton ribby single. H'Birds plated 3 in the 3rd with Skip Lyons and Jim Connolly scoring with help of an error, and Myers rbi single. Kingston battled back to tie it at 3-3 in bottom of the 5th on lead-off 1B by Jim LaTorre, and knocks by Lyons and Connolly. In top of 6th, Mike Lannon sparked game-winning rally with a single, scoring on a Hauser single, who then came around from 1st on a Dunbar 2-bag blast to dead center, to get Fordians lead back at 5-3......Hummingbirds don't ever quit and came right back on a Jerry Hawkins 2B, a BB and Jim LaTorre 2nd hit of the game to load them up with tying and winning runs on base, before Ferris got game ending "K" to nail down the "W".
