I joined the Blue Jays this off-season and am working with Mike Kravitz and other members of the team in an effort to attract talented pitchers and hitters to supplement our recruiting efforts. The Blue Jays are the longest running team in CDMSBL history having fielded a team since 1994. In August of this past season we committed to league officials to initiate a recruiting program in order to develop a significantly improved and committed team that can regularly compete with the top teams in our very tough 35+ division. The recruiting efforts thus far have been successful. We have added some new players who will give us improved hitting, speed and defense. As we near the end of our recruiting process our primary focus is to bring in one or two more top level pitchers. We are looking for pitcher(s) who have a track record of success against the top teams in this league - or a similar level of success in a different league (like the American League Central!). A pitching candidate who can also play in the field would be a bonus. We are also looking for an additional hitter; again someone with a track record as a high impact player who can hit against all levels of pitching. If you are interested in joining the Blue Jays and helping to improve an established team, please respond via e-mail to dballjr@nycap.rr.com. If you would like to discuss your situation, please call me after 8:00 PM at 475-9560. We would like to wrap up the recruiting process and finalize our roster by November 15th. Thanks.
Pete - I consider you a top level pitcher. If you were on my team I would strike out about six fewer times per year! Although I strike out against alot of mid-level pitchers as well!
Seriously, if you are looking to pitch in the 35s, contact me. Thanks.
Well thanks, guys - for stealing my recruitment speech before I got a chance to post it. I guess I'll have to try a new approach. Donnie, you used the exact tone I was going to use to try and recruit new players to the Shaskys. I guess I shouldn't have sent my version of a pitch to you to look over and correct for spelling and grammar mistakes the other day...
Just kidding! I'll just wait for the dust to settle from your post...
Tony - Rough draft? I thought what you sent me was a screenplay for your next baseball movie. If you have a camera ready, we could do a video promotion for recruiting!
But seriously, I respect the way you have built the Shasky's. Your team is improving one season and a few new players at a time. And you are doing it without complaining about other teams having an "unfair advantage". I'm sure that you will make more progress this off season.
The Blue Jays are following a similar approach. We have a strong nucleus of returning players to build on and we have been successful in attracting some quality players through our recruiting. The new free agency rules have created a nice pool of available players. We are happy that some of them have chosen to join the Blue Jays.
Let me know if you are looking for an opponent for a Cooperstown game...although I can tell you in adavance that I won't be pitching! Good luck.
