The start of Friday night's game was delayed while waiting for the arrival of the base umpire. The delay eventually caused the game to be shortened to 5 innings due to darkness. The Rockies got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Mick Novak triple and a sacrafice fly by Rick Koster. The Cubs got even in the top of the second on a walk by Jon Martin, a wild pitch, and a double by Jim McQuade. That tie did not last long as the Rockies got a lead off single by Chris Dedrick, followed by a single by ? Pichi, and a Cubs error on the first of many horrible hops on the Farnsworth infield. The Cubs got their lead off runner on in the top of the third on a Rockies error on another one of those crazy hops on a grounder to short. The Cubs then used a HBP and six singles by Ron Lochner, Mike Girard, Tom Maney, Sean Maney, Jon Martin and Phil Gadomski to plate 5 runs and grab a 6-2 lead. This Rockies team is loaded with talent and they rallied in the bottom of the fourth with 3 runs to bring the score to 6-5. Doubles by Josh Kenniston, Tony Skrabalak, and another triple by Mick Novak were the keys to the rally. Phil Gadomski came on in relief of Cubs starter, Jon Martin, with two outs to extinguish the rally. With the sun already sinking and time for only one more inning, the Cubs used singles by Joe Ciccarelli, Mcquade, Lochner, Girard, and Tom Maney, and a double by Bryce Cutler to score 7 big runs and expand the lead to a comfortable 13-5. Gadomski pitched a scoreless bottom of the fifth to close out the game. A special medal of courage needs to be awarded to the two shortstops tonight,(Chris Dedrick and Randy Craft) as they stood bravely in front of hard grounders that took ridiculous hops all night. One particular hard grounder by Ron Lochner almost took Dedrick's head off, as the first two bounces were normal, but the third hop would have made a kangaroo proud, and the ball whistled by his left ear. Good luck to all infielders as they play games on this infield. I'm just glad that nobody got hurt.

I have to say that the Cubs are the team no one should take for granted. They have a very talented team, and for those who dont know them they can hit the S_ _T out hte ball. The field was so bad for both teams but the Cubs pulled it off. The umps were so late, maybe something needs to be said to Mitch, I dont think they should get payed if they are the ones coming in late and the game has to be called due to darkness. Anyway it was good seeing the Cubs and will say that they are a claas bunch. We will see them again, maybe on a good field or a Staurday which we dont mind. Good luck to them.
