Sincerest thanks, Ed Diegel and the Platinums

As I've doubtless said before, there's no worse feeling for a manager than arriving for a game short a player--and none better than having an opposing manager obligingly lend you one of his own. Yesterday at New Scotland, the Gray Cougars were the beneficiaries of just such exemplary sportsmanship compliments of Platinum Marlins' manager Ed Diegel.

Indeed, Ed went above and beyond the call of duty by covering our catching duties for five innings (and thereby saving our only catcher from having to do three games in four days). Special thanks to Plat's catchers Don "The Legend" Wixon and Randy Wood, who both did a fine job behind the plate for the Gray Cougars.

And thanks, in addition, to the Plat's Jay Hayner, who generously gave us an inning in left field. Jay made what was surely the play of the game, by managing to "reel" in a long fly ball over his head off the bat of our beloved and esteemed commissioner, John "Father Christmas" Reel. Jay told me he wasn't an outfielder, but after seeing that play I'd say he was just being modest. What a catch!

Congratulations and thanks to Ed Diegel, a true gentleman, and his Platinum Marlins, a great bunch of guys to a man. Platinums 9, Gray Cougars 6.

Frank
Mgr., 55+ Gray Cougars
