In a 7-2 defeat of the Cubs, the Nats plated 4 runs on two-out bloop singles. I'm talking about balls that were so softly hit that they didn't even bend the grass as they landed between the infield and the outfield. The Cubs handed the Nats two of their other runs on errors. Meanwhile the Cubs plated just two runs against Joe Fitzgerald. The first run was on a home run by Andy Hoyle. It was a majestic blast that was in the air so long that Godfather parts I, II, and III could have been shown on the flight! The second Cubs run was scored in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Mike Girard, a long double by Hoyle, and an RBI single by Pete Geanellis. Fred Anderson, Jeremiah Primeau, and Bobby Lane all had two singles each for the Nats.
