In the first match-up of what's sure to become a very spirited rivalry in the future, the Cougars and Cyclones split their doubleheader on Sunday at Satellite. Frank Montagano scattered 8 hits in the first game, as the Cougars ran their way to a 16-7 win, taking advantage of a host of walks and Cyclone errors. Frank was very effective, throwing ground balls all afternoon. I counted no fewer than a dozen plays involving SS Billy Van Alstyne, who also had two hits and scored three runs. In the second game, the Cyclones got 8 runs in the 2nd inning, and 4 more in the 3rd, and held on to win, 13-10 behind Vince Koster, who gutted it out and got the outs when he needed them in a complete game win. Vince also got two hits, including a triple, 3 RBI's, and scored two runs in the second game. Read Shepherd had two hits and 4 RBI's, and scored twice, and Brian Quinn and Cos DiBari broke out with three runs scored and a hit apiece. For the Cougars in the nightcap, Jim Wing and Billy Van Alstyne each had 3 hits, and Andy Andros had two.
