Giants perfect season ends.

Tuesday night at New Scotland, the Golden Marlins used a dominant pitching performance from Chuck Sohl and a great display of defense to knock off the previously unbeaten Giants. Sohl pitched a complete game 4-hitter, with 2 walks and 2 strike outs in shutting out the Giants. Chuck was backed by some web gems by Ron Lochner, Randy Craft, Tom Maney, and Mike Girard that helped in key situations all night long.
The Golden Marlins got on the board in the bottom of the first on a single and stolen base by Tom Maney, followed by a one-out RBI single by Mike Girard.
The Fish loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning on a Mike Lafave double, a Bob Coffey single, and a walk to Tom Maney. Randy Craft delivered a run with a single. The bases were still loaded with just one out, and Girard and Lochner were due up. Jim Whitford got Girard to fly out to short and got Lochner to ground out to first to keep his team in the game. That was a great job by a guy that says that he hasn't pitched since high school!
Mr. Whitford set the Goldens down in order in the 3rd and 4th innings, but the Fish were able to plate an insurance run in the 5th on a single and stolen base by Tom Maney, a walk to Girard, and a RBI single by Lochner.
That closed out the scoring as Chuck Sohl finished strongly, giving up just one single over the last 3 innings.
I want to make just one final comment regarding the classy buch of guys on this Giants team. They were playing without four regulars that have contributed alot to their being undefeated. They made no excuses, and when the topic was brought up at the cooler session after the game, they would hear none of it. They congratulated the Golden Marlins on playing a winning game and didn't want to hear about who they were missing. A CLASSY bunch!
We look forward to seeing you guys in the "second season," after the Labor Day Tournament and the 35+ Playoffs are over.

Great wrap of the game, Mike, and thanx much for the compliments.

Also, Marlins were missing several players as well, so the game was played on an even keel. Yet, both teams showed their depth. Just one error by each side in the game, and neither led to a run.

And it's true, Jim Whitford hadn't pitched since high school, though we gave him an inning earlier in the season.

And Mike, you owe Chuck a a great deal of gratitude. Had he not gone the distance, you would have had to come in !!!

Nice job Marlins. And thanx for the post-game libation. Always some good laughs to be in your company after a game.
