The Orioles wrapped up the regular season title and # 1 seed for the playoffs with a 10-7 win last night at the Knick.
Jim Maloney improved to 4-0 on the year by pitching 5.2 innings. The Orioles were leading 10-3 after five and the call was made to try and give the A's their last at bat. The A's scored four and had the bases loaded with two outs when the umpires called the game. To the A's credit they did not complain, it really was that dark and someone could have gotten hurt.
Offensively for the Orioles Joe Careccia and Paul Scutieri had two run doubles, Mark Lennox had a pair of rbi and Dick Stark had a pair of hits and 2 rbi.
Ray Demers had a pair of doubles and Dan Spillman a pair of singles for the A's
Dick, Congrats to you and the O's on clinching first place in the regular season! (30 points is a number that nobody else can get to.) Helluva job! You guys will still have a lot to say about who finishes in the second through sixth positions with your last three games being with the Hummers and the Yanks. I think that it is great that an old catcher (I can say that because I am a member of the fraternity) has gone 4-0 for you on the bump. Congrats, Mr. Maloney. Good luck the rest of the way. We will see you guys in the playoffs. Mike Girard
