Pirates 6, Highlanders 0

The Pirates defeated the Highlanders 6 to 0 at Bethlehem Field on Tuesday night. Kane was certainly the Citizen on the mound as he tossed the complete two hit shutout. Calhoun, Jordan, and Agresta led the Pirates attack with two hits each. Scorsone and Friedman had hits for the Highlanders.

Is this where I make a "Rosebud" joke, or would that be too feeble/obscure?

Anyway, "Citizen" Kane allowed back-to-back singles to start the game. Then mowed down 20 consecutive Highlanders (there was a DP in the 1st inning) to end it. He was like a machine, as if somebody taught Robocop how to toe the rubber. In addition, he hit a double, stole a base, reached on a walk, AND baked a cake for the big society auction. Mike's record this season now stands at 6-1 with an ERA of 1.21. Plus 18 stolen bases so far, with an OBP above.500.

We played perfect defense behind him.

Kevin Jackson pitched for the Highlanders and had us all muttering invectives for most of the night. We popped up weakly, time and again. The Bucs finally broke the scoreless tie in the 5th with a two-out single by Jordan, driving in Smaka for the go-ahead run. With the way Kevin had been working us over, we were glad to have it. A key error on a sac bunt hurt the Highlanders in the 6th, and we managed to score four more.

A good, crisp, fast-paced game. We hustled on and off the field between innings, the umps kept things clicking along, and we played a full game with a couple of minutes of daylight to spare.
