After the championship trophy was awarded to Jim McQuade of the Cubs, last night at the Commons, Jim named the playoff MVP. That MVP was Ron Massaroni. Ron pitched the Cubs to victory in all three of his playoff appearances. Ron limitted the Nats to three runs in seven innings in the quarter finals. In the semi-finals, Ron out dueled JJ Pearsall, and put in another complete game in the Cubs 4-2 victory over the Yankees. Ron again pitched a complete game, in game one of the finals, giving up just three runs, in beating the Orioles and their ace, Jim Becker 4-3. Even though the Cubs sweep of three playoff series was a true team effort, with every player having a key part of a win somewhere in the six games, Ron was clearly the MVP, as he bested three very tough pitchers to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead in each series. Congratulations Ron!
Ron being named the MVP was clearly deserved. Super efforts by "Maz'' in the games I witnessed. But as effective as Ron was on the mound, the buzz after the clinching game was about one Randall Craft. Too bad everyone couldn't have seen that display of pure defensive baseball execution. He put on a show - and a clinic - for 7 innings. JK Giants
