on wedneday, aug. 10th at cba, the highlanders and peppers were engaged in a taut game through four innings - the peppers were up 1-0 - when our starter matt leinung, who had pitched a fine game, seemed to fade, yours truly went in and about 10 pitches later went out. kaboom! almost anybody who has pitched knows that sound. the sky collapsed on every side of the mound, within inches of my feet, as the highlanders suddenly decided to take wood-cracking batting practice and, six innings later, claim an 11-3 win. john kalinski had a good night for the h'boys, going 3-for-3 and don dunham and l. robhun (sp?) and had two hits each.
the skies stayed up on thursday night at cba fortunately, and john webber pitched a fine game, allowing only 5 hits over seven innings, as the peppers beat the a's 4-1. mark meyers and darryl hunt each went 3-for-3 for the peppers, with five stolen bags between them. for the a's, artie gianakos slugged a triple to deep right - a nice shot just to the inside of the line - and legged it out himself, despite an earlier application for a courtesy runner.
