Dean and Tracey Mercer of Watervliet and their two kids were in the news recently, and to no fault of theirs. While their dog was in their fenced yard, some gutless scumbag drove by and shot the dog. The dog was taken to a vet hospital, and after $2,000 worth of bills, the dog died from a blood clot.
The $2,000 they had to spend was their mortgage/bills money they need each month. They are still dealing with the sadness of their kids, who are 6 and 8 - one boy, one girl, and are now behind on their mortgage and all other bills. Watervliet police are still investigating, but no arrests yet.
I realize these people are strangers to all of us, but if you could donate $5 or more, that would help them immensely. You can send a check to them or me and I'll get it to them.
Address to: Dean and Tracey Mercer 925 25th Street Watervliet, NY 12189 or Jim Konstantakis 512 East St. Rensselaer 12144.
Anything you all can do will be greatly appreciated. I didn't know these people till I saw the news story and the photo of the two kids and dog. They are good, hard-working people and Tracey's mom just passed away a month ago or so. So, anything positive will really boost their spirits. Thanx much. WATERVLIET -- A 25th Street family is offering a reward for information about the person who shot and killed their dog while it was leashed in their backyard.
Tracey Mercer says Timmy, a 13-month-old Brittany spaniel, was shot on Oct. 3 by a pellet gun while he was outside tethered to an aerial dog run on the family property.
The dog spent days in critical condition in a veterinarian hospital, and was expected to make a full recovery. But he died from a blood clot related to the shooting on Saturday, Mercer said.
"We are so heartbroken, so devastated," she said. "We have no idea why someone would shoot a dog who never barks."
The Mercer family has contacted police about their dog's death. They are offering a $100 reward for information that leads them to the person who shot the tan and white dog.
The Mercers have two children, Nicholas, 8, and Leah, 6, who adored Timmy, their mother said. The dog was given to Tracey Mercer's father for companionship after his wife died, and he gave it to the children, Mercer said.
The dog was shot on its left side.
"We just feel so violated," Mercer said.
